Breweries are considered a high-hazardous industry by OSHA as it is inherently fraught with multitudes of hazards. With the use of extremely hot liquids, pressurized tanks, caustic chemicals, fast moving machinery, frequently wet floors and fork lifts weaving in and out of production, making beer can have safety risks which can be very dangerous, difficult to identify, and manage.
Smaller and Medium sized brewers are at higher risk than the large breweries as they have all the same hazards, but lack the resources for a professional safety team. The result is that craft breweries have 4 x more safety violations than large breweries, and small injuries often go unreported at craft breweries due to a lack of formal process for reporting injuries.
